The key to protecting your plants in colder months is good drainage too. Water expands when it freezes, so allowing excess moisture to escape helps prevent damage to both roots and pots. We recommend adding pot feet beneath each planter to lift it slightly off the ground, improving airflow and stopping water from pooling at the base.
